PDA Legacy ’09 squad, led by youth Director Nick Heinemann, has added another significant title to its already impressive resume, winning the Nike Premier Cup on Saturday, July 27. This prestigious tournament brought together 12 of the top Under-15 teams from across the globe, each representing a different country. PDA, known for its quality, was the only team selected in the country to join a pool of 12 Top U15 teams from across the globe. PDA emerged victorious after a thrilling penalty shootout against a formidable South Korean All-Star team, following a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Nike’s Globe Headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

A Undefeated Journey to the Top

PDA Legacy ’09 road to the championship was nothing short of spectacular. The team went undefeated throughout the tournament, securing four wins out of six games and drawing the remaining two. The New Jersey powerhouse, already celebrated as the 2023 ECNL National Champions, once again demonstrated their skill, resilience, and team spirit on the international stage.

Drawn into a competitive group alongside Denmark's FC Nordsjælland, Germany's VfL Wolfsburg, and Brazil's Ferroviaria, PDA Legacy ’09 showcased their talent from the outset. They kicked off their campaign with a thrilling 4-3 victory against Nordsjælland. Amari Manning led the charge with two goals, while Alyssa Hammoud and Deus Stanislaus each added to the scoreline. Notably, both Manning and Stanislaus have been called up to the U.S. U15 Girls’ National Team for the upcoming Concacaf Championship.

In their second group match, PDA Blue faced Wolfsburg and secured a more comfortable 4-1 victory. Hammoud continued her impressive form, scoring one goal and assisting another. Danica Tsapatsaris, Stanislaus, and Lidia Gilch also found the back of the net. The midfield trio of Cali Smith, Stanislaus, and Elizabeth Rubin played a pivotal role, controlling the game and creating opportunities for their teammates.

PDA Blue completed their group stage with a narrow 1-0 win over Ferroviaria, securing their place at the top of the group. Makena Lee scored the decisive goal with an assist from Hammoud, while the defense, marshaled by Sandra O'Neill and Quinlan Donahue, kept a clean sheet to ensure victory.

Navigating the Knockout Rounds

As the top seed entering the knockout stage, PDA Blue faced off against a Liga MX All-Star team in the quarterfinals. In a tightly contested match, the New Jersey side emerged victorious with another 1-0 win. Manning set up Stanislaus for a powerful header that sealed their place in the semifinals. The defense, led by O'Neill, Donahue, and Maggie Averell, once again provided a solid foundation, helping goalkeeper Jordan Reigrod keep another clean sheet.

In the semifinals, PDA Blue encountered Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds. The game was a battle of strategies, with PDA pressing high to disrupt Urawa’s possession play. After Urawa took the lead with 18 minutes remaining, PDA Blue responded swiftly, with Lee equalizing from a well-executed set piece. With the match tied at 1-1, it went to penalties, where O'Neill's cool finish booked PDA’s place in the final.

A Nail-Biting Final Victory

The final match against the KFA All-Star team was a fitting climax to PDA Blue’s tournament run. Both teams created several chances but were unable to break the deadlock, leading to a tense penalty shootout. In a dramatic conclusion, PDA Blue emerged victorious with a 7-6 win, as Samantha Trimble converted the decisive spot-kick after Reigrod (Golden Glove Winner) made a crucial save.

This victory at the Nike Premier Cup is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and skill of the PDA Blue 2009 squad. Their undefeated run and triumph in a global tournament highlight the strength of the program and the bright future of its players. Congratulations to PDA Blue for another outstanding achievement on the international stage!
